CAN FALSE ENVIRONMENTALISTS MAKE TRUE PREDICTIONS

There is a clever tactic adopted by powerful people in Coorg, and elsewhere - when environmentalists oppose them, they try to destroy the credibility of those environmentalists by calling them 'False environmentalists' (Dongi Parisaravadhi in Kannada).

These Green Warriors are accused of getting foreign funds and working only to make money money for themselves and not really because they have concern for the environment.

Yes there may be such organisations, so they should be investigated and those found guilty should have action taken against them. But all environmentalists cannot be called 'False'. That is too convenient.

The environmentalists of Kodagu have been warning the Govt of what could happen to the local ecology if they allowed the High-tension Power Line to Kerala which allegedly cut 54,000 trees. Their predictions were right. While it may rain more next year, we cannot pretend that there was no impact at all from this tree cutting.

The same environmentalists are now advising the Govt to stop Land Conversion in Coorg to build resorts. This needs the cutting of trees to be done. They are also saying - Stop wet land conversion to build layouts completely. Kerala has done so, why can't we?

Nobody is listening because the mantra is "Development" it earns more for all in power today. Tomorrow these leaders may not be in power, when a more vicious drought sets in.

It is 23rd February 2017, the heat has started in Bangalore. In Coorg, the ponds and streams are drying up very quickly.

The KRS Dam which holds Bangalore's drinking water is nearly empty and the Govt intends to use the 'Dead Storage' amount of water which has not been done before.

Dead trees = Dead storage...simple.

But there is still no talk of "Let us not make a big mistake and destroy the trees of the catchment area of the River Cauvery which is Kodagu."

The leaders still want to push "Development" down the throats of Kodagu farmers and give them three railway tracks, highway expansion, big cities, airport, stadium, and build housing layouts in paddy fields...this will mean the certain death of the River Cauvery.

For how long will life be possible in Bangalore once the Cauvery dries up?

People of Bangalore, Mysore, Mandya and Tamil Nadu Cauvery Belt. Wake up and insist that the catchment area of the River that brings you drinking water is protected.

Join your local environmental organisation, use social media, write letters to the editor and wake up the public to this terrible event that is about to happen.
