My father was working as a Head Clerk, and his Boss Chief Clerk was a Britisher,

There were eight ordinary clerks working in that office.

All the offices use to work for seven days in a week.

A day before (புரட்டாசி சனி கிழமை) that is on Friday, all the eight ordinary clerks applied for a day's leave

All the eight leave applications were placed on the Chief Clerks table for Sanctioning.

The Chief Clerk was reddish in look, His face became become more red and became furious, when he saw all the
eight junior clerks applying for leave in Saturday and called my father to his room and shouted " What is this Mister
Aiyyar, all the junior clerks have applied for leave on Saturday.How will the office function.I don't remember they all a applied leave last year"

My father was a very a bit intelligent.He understood the situation. On one hand all the eight clerks should get leave
and the Boss must also be happy.

He paused for a minute and said in a low voice " SIr as far I remember this 'function' for which the clerks are
applying for leave came on a Sunday, Unfortunately this function this year comes on a Saturday and it is a very
important function for all South Indians"

The Chief Clerk was convinced and sanctioned leave to all the eight clerks.

There was happiness all round .
